Trying to arrange our last outing to Roscommon was a nightmare due to the fact that members told me they where going and after the bus was booked decided to cancel, some even cancelled the night before hand - this then left us stuck as the seven still attending could not afford the bus which had been hired originally for 15 members,

So in order to not go through this again, it has been decided that for any upcoming day trips - Money for transport will be taken early and this money will be non refundable.

I understand things come up and cant be helped but it was not fair on the other members, myself or the bus driver who I had to cancel on only the night before hand.

Guinness World Record for Most Knitters Together

On Saturday Myself, Michelle, Elizabeth, Jen. Sharon, Anne and Shauna Joined knitters from all over Ireland in Roscommon in the hope of breaking the world record for the most knitters in one area - Michelle from Michelle made this had arranged it all.

we moved to the stands in Hyde Park to get ready to break the record .. but it was freezing!

to keep the knitters entertained there was a live band, dog show and a reenactment

people from all over Ireland attended and even from around the world - there was even a lady there in her 100th year!

we may not have had the comfort as Oregon had when they broke the record back in 2009(above), but we had what the Irish always have heart, soul and craic!

once finished, we decided to stop at a cafe for lunch

here we learnt more about each other like:

1. Not to get on the bad side of Anne ;)

2. That Jen could kick us around the place

3. That Michelle plans on winning the next tour de France

4. Elizabeth has been in the middle of floods, snow storms and unimaginable heat (not all at once, we hope!)

5.Shauna doesnt like school and plans on coming to the stitch group weekly now

6.Sharon was a teenage drinker ;)

7.and Me? ..... now that would be telling! ;)

after a lovely dinner we all crossed the road to Mrs Kelly's sweet shop

"look shes knitting" ... yes Michelle now put the sugar down and step away ;)

A big thank you to all the ladies, I had a lovely day with you, also Thank you Jen and Elizabeth for coming through at the last minute and driving us :)

Well what a beautiful day it turned out to be for our first group outing! The sun was shining and we were all ready for a great time, We met at the Menlo Hotel as this would be the pick up/ drop off spot for John our bus driver,

Goodbye to Miho

This weeks group turned out to also be a farewell to a well loved member Miho, as she is returning home to Japan after her few months in Galway.

Miho was presented with a group photo from all members and she had made two wonderfully beautiful crochet flowers for Julie and Myself (Thank you Miho)

Knit a Sock workshop

Learn to knit - lesson 1

LEARN THE BASIC KNITTING SKILLS and let the sky be the limit!

This week you will learn to cast on, knit,purl,change yarn,cast off** and weave in yarn ends.
Then we’ll do some simple increases, decreases and show you how to pick up stitches.

Materials needed:
Yarn - any amount, any weight will do. We will practice knitting a sample square, so scrap yarn will do.
Needles - Provided by Agnieszka /as she has tons and tons of needles at home and only knits with 2 at a time ;o)/
Tapestry needle and scissors, which can be shared between people.

the class will teach the continental knitting (not British). There will be no rhymes to memorise, unless we make up something as we go ;o)

It is important to stay that CafeCreate is still and always will be a Social Group and not a school of knitting/ Crochet, although members are usually more then happy to give some help and tips to people starting out, and once every couple of months we will do different workshops in both knitting and crochet, but for those who are not interested in the workshops, the group will still be going ahead as a social hobby group.

We had such a nice and relaxed group this week, there was myself and alot of the newer members of our group which was great as I got to know them much much better:)

I cant believe how wonderful Shirley is doing at Crochet - Shirley has been crocheting for three weeks after attending the group and has done a fantasic job at making A blanket for a double bed and had started a pattern from The happy hooker book, she has learnt the craft so fast!
Also Julie is making a beautiful baby capelet(also from the happy hooker)and it is turning out perfect (you wouldnt think it was her first time trying the pattern!)
Siobhan was there also and went home last week without any lessons and made her first crochet project!
Helens Mom(cant remember her name - will edit this next week) was there making a fantasic bag with such unusal yarn
We had our first Male member Dyson came with his mom and is doing a great job crocheting granny sqaures

All the members have seemed to be buying The Happy Hooker book - Im delighted as I'm always using it - and we all get to share tips from it with eachother
It was a very quite morning over coffee and I really enjoyed getting to know you all :)

This weeks group didnt go to plan very well because on the same day the Menlo had three large groups
* A wedding
* A Football Team
* Our Group
This has never happened before and the hotel has told me it more than likely wont happen again.
I know some people felt very inconvenienced and voiced maybe a change of hotels - this wont happen. Also the group is getting larger (which isnt a bad thing) this means we will have to be even more self contained on those 'large group days'
CafeCreate is always going to be free, that is why we cant book a room in the Menlo Hotel otherwise everyone is left paying to join a socail group,
I will finish off with this
There may be times when we are left sqeezing into whatever corner is free in the Hotel but this week was the first time that it happened and the Menlo has been very good to us and at the end of the day it offers us more room then a cafe would, also new members will always be welcomed into the group

How wonderful it was to meet up with all the stitch'n'bitch ladies again on Monday 13th July, We all got together in order to meet with Donna and Ginna.

Our fifth group meeting took place on Saturday 11th July - We are now over a month old ;) and as a gift I gave each of these talented women a small gift of beads from Feanor Crafts and everyone seemed to like them :)
We had Four 'newbies' - Elizabeth (my Mother-in-law to be), Martina, Sara(visiting from the States) and Alex (the owner of Feanor Crafts)

After an hour into the group we moved to the Holland room in the Menlo Hotel which was a beautiful bright room and so I think we have found our new home ;)

I arrived with Aga to our usual spot (the comfy sofas in the bar area) and was delighted to meet Michelle fresh from her Holiday to Canada and a newbie to the group :) (sporting a very cool Afghan crochet hook too!)
Lisa soon followed with darling Emmy(her daughter who was so good and patient). Martina was next driving in all the way from Connemara!!! and last but not least Mairin with the most beautiful silk wool!
While we sat there it was decided that for next week's group we might sit out behind the bar in the 'glass' area on the black and white sofas

After two Aga, Martina and I went to lunch in Haldi where we had a great BIG lunch that was yummy! but next time the one portion will be enough to feed three!

"Hello generous knitters,

I am writing on behalf of my 4-year old daughter. I feel incredibly blessed to have a healthy, happy, and profoundly generous little girl. After collecting change for over a year, she chose to donate it to our local animal hospital rather than buy herself a gift. She is, in short, incredible.

This week, Sophie and I have been discussing charity, and what it means to help others, be they ill, impoverished, or simply in need of company. I explained all sorts of volunteer opportunities that we could seek out, because I wanted to do something once a week with her for the good of others. After thinking about all of her options, Sophie decided that she wanted to visit the children at our local hospital who were ill, so that she could play with them and “make them feel better.” I called the hospital, but found out that their minimum age for volunteers was 13. Undeterred, Sophie still wanted to help the kids, and I asked if they accepted knitted goods, which of course they do.

Sophie knits…she taught herself by watching me. I haven’t seen a fair-isle sweater come off of her needles yet, but she’s got garter stitch pretty well mastered. We decided that one of the ways that we could help these kids was by making little comfort blankets (predominantly, in our minds, for toddlers). Obviously, they would need to be soft and machine washable, but, barring that, the hospital has no specific requirements. I’m thinking small “cozies” that can be carted around (aka Linus in the Peanuts series) would be lovely. Nothing huge…certainly nothing bigger than a small crib blanket, and anything that could be knit or crocheted quickly would be ideal. I don’t want this to become overwhelming for people. ETA: maybe 20” x 30”…big enough to hold on to, but not too big to take along for a chemo treatment or other procedure?

The reason, my knitterly friends, that I am posting here is this: Sophie and I could make a few comfy blankies for the hospital and feel good about ourselves. But I had a thought: what better way to teach her about charity and the kindness of others than if we were able to collect a number of blankies from people all over the place? She would not only feel empowered by helping others, but see how charity works on a bigger scale.

I know that this is one of a myriad of requests out there, and it is certainly no more worthy than any other options for charity knitting. But if you feel so compelled, please consider taking the time to make a little “cozy” for a little one at our local Children’s Hospital.

There is no set deadline for this project, but I’d like to be able to deliver a “batch” to the hospital by the end of September. If people are still wanting to contribute after then, that’d be great, and we’ll continue to make visits as long as we get donations!

If you do complete a “cozy” and would like to know where to send it, please PM me for my address.

Thank you, in advance, for your consideration. I feel so fortunate to have a healthy and kind-hearted little girl that I just want to “pay-it-forward” a bit. I know Sophie would thank you too, if I wasn’t keeping this a surpise from her until I find out if we get any blankies!

I managed to nab the comfy sofas for this weeks meeting, I think its safe to say that most likely we will always be somewhere in the bar area of the Menlo Hotel, unless its a gorgeous day and there for we may sit outside,
New members will find us as its not that hard to miss the wool ;)
Aga was first to arrive with socks in tow followed by Lisa wearing her gorgeous neck warmer then Eve with her daughter and Sylvie (first time coming to the group and a pleasure to meet)

Cafecreate's first group meeting was great -
I was there early to nab some comfy seats and was very happy with the spot across from the bar. Feeling nervous at 11.5oam waiting for someone(anyone) to arrive, I began my crochet project of a granny sqaure dress.
Thankfully I had nothing to worry about as Lisa was first to show up, bringing with her a friendly smile and a crochet neckwarmer project :)

Followed then by Jagienka and her knitted sock, all three of us live very close to each other (isnt it a small world)

Máirín and her knitted sweater project(which looked amazing)also was able to find us

and so the group began with chatter back and forth each adding information on ourself and finding alot in common. Mairin's friend Eve and her two gorgeous girls also joined us very quickly so hopefully we may see her again :)
Thankfully Jagienka had a camera and took some pictures (will be posted ASAP)
All in all I had a great time with these talented women and look forward to meeting more like them :)
